Your child will begin a new reading homework routine next week (or this weekend). Your child will be reading from the Raz-Kids website https://www.raz-kids.com/ (Monday through Thursday). Reading 10-15 minutes each night will be your child’s reading homework. Your child will be asked to complete three tasks for each book. Listen to the book, read the book to someone and then take a quiz over the book. The goal is for your child to read at least two books each week and to take two quizzes each week. However, if your child would like to read a new book every night that would be excellent too. Each Raz-Kids quiz has 5 questions. Points are earned based on the number of questions answered correctly. Students are encouraged to score 5/5 on every quiz.
No need to keep track of the books read, I can see on the website that they are reading at home and in class. This will take the place of the take-home readers your family probably read in Kindergarten. We have found the kids to be more motivated with this system.
Attached to this letter you will find directions on how to logon to the website. Your child’s password is also stated on this letter. As a parent you also have different ways to track your child’s progress. Please feel free to explore these options.
You can also fill out the reading log in the homework packet with other books your child has read. If you don’t have a way to access the internet from home, you can also use Raz-kids on a tablet or smartphone by downloading the app.
